2. Bake Sale April 3rd from 9-4:30pm

3. COE Phone calls to accepted female engineers
The COE is organizing a phone call campaign to the accepted women engineering freshman and transfer students on Wednesday April 2 and Thursday April 3rd from 5 pm to 7 pm using the phones in the Student Success Center, MESA offices and BCME offices at least. Pizza and drinks will be provided to volunteers! Stop by and help if you can!

Call for Applicants: FY15 Section Officers

Have you thought about what would you like to do next year? Running for an officer position is a great way to grow leadership skills as well as express your dedication to SWE! :) Here are some general descriptions for each position:

President:
• Represents the section before the public and is in charge of the meetings
• Appoints the chairs of all committees and approve the appointment of all committee members
• Coordinates club activities
• Responsible for submitting section reports the region representatives and the annual report to the Society
• Perform other duties associated with the position of Section President or assigned by the executive council

Vice President:
• Take on the duties of the president if the president is unable to serve
• Coordinate club activities
• Perform other duties assigned by the president or executive council

Secretary:
• Maintain the records of the section
• Responsible for preparing and retaining the officer meeting minutes
• Perform other duties associated with the position of Section Secretary or assigned by the executive council

Treasurer:
• Responsible for the collection, distribution, and safekeeping of section funds
• Prepare, maintain, and report as directed on the financial position of the section
• Submit a financial report to the Society
• Perform other duties associated with the position of Section Treasurer or assigned by the executive council

The last day to submit applications is Friday, March 14th and elections will be open April 1st-2nd. 2. SWE Region A Conference April 25-27th at UC Davis
If you are interested in attending the conference, please fill out the Google survey so we can establish how many hotel rooms and drivers we need. You have until March 9th to sign up on the Google doc to be included in the hotel.

3. Transitioning from Java to C Workshop
Time and date TBA
This quick workshop will help SE and CS students get a head start in C-heavy courses such as CS 166 and CMPE 102. Includes: Setting up your environment, declaring variables, using loops, and dealing with functions, pointers, file I/O, typecasting, and variable argument lists. 4. Git Workshop March 7th, 2014 at 10:30am – 12:30pm in ENGR 337
If you want to learn more about version control, sign up for the Git workshop. One of the best ways to organize code based group projects, as well as tracking the evolution of a your softwares projects. (SCE event) Click the title for sign up!

10. MEP Joint Study Jam with Lockheed Martin
February 10th to April 30th, 6:00-8:00, Engineering 336
Lockheed Martin engineers will be here as volunteer tutors every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening to provide support with your Engineering courses. Math, Physics, Statics, Dynamics, Intro to Circuits are but a few of the courses they may be able to assist with.

11. Lean In Readings
Prof. Gleixner is co-leading a reading/discussion group the that focuses on professional development for women in STEM careers based on the book Lean In by Facebook COO Cheryl Sandberg. They will meet on Wednesdays from 12-1:15 in DMH 308. For more info, contact stacy.gleixner@sjsu.edu.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event so amazing this past weekend! We couldn’t have done it without you. 
 
2. Science Extavaganza
SOLES will be hosting their big event of the year this Saturday (2/8) from 8:00-4:00 in the Engineering building. 3. Valentine’s Day Bake Sale
SWE will be hosting a Valentine’s Day themed bake sale on Feb. 13th from 9 am-4:30 pm in the Engineering lobby. This will be a fundraiser to help pay for the costs of attending the Region A conference in April. Any donation of bake goods and/or time is appreciated! 11. Watsonville High School Engineering Night Feb 18th at 7 pm    
The organizers of Engineering Night are looking for STEM girls to volunteer for the event. If you are from that area please consider helping them out.
 
12. Membership
If you would like to be a member and have access to benefits such as the club room (we supply free lockers, coffee, water, white boards with markers, and a cheap snack shop for those long study periods), scholarships, internship/opportunity information, corporate visits, conferences, resume help and more, you are only a few clicks away!  If you go to swe.org, there is a tab for membership. Highlight it and under it it will say “join.” Follow the process from there, it will ask you for your information and a few other things. You have two payment options: $20 for the year or $50 for all of your collegiate years plus your first year in career. Make sure to choose section A59 (San Jose State University) and not the Santa Clara Valley section. Once you have signed up please forward the email receipt to swe.sjsu@gmail.com so that you can get your door code for the club room and be put on the mailing list.
