End of Year Updates

We, the Society of Women Engineers at San Jose State University, are very pleased to announce that we have been selected as one of eleven student organizations across the country as recipients of the NCWIT Student Seed Fund grant, sponsored by Symantec! Thanks to Symantec and the National Center for Women & IT (NCWIT), SWE-SJSU will be able to expand its horizons and provide more opportunities for its members to develop both professionally and academically. Our specific plan of action is to host SWE-SJSU’s very first, all women’s hackathon in the upcoming fall semester.

A hackathon is basically an event during which students get together to code and to learn new technologies and then towards the end, to present their finished project to a panel of judges. It’s a great place for any CS student or anyone interested in learning how to program to start working on a project outside of class. Even better, it’s an ideal environment to meet similarly-minded women tech enthusiasts and to network with representatives (usually software engineers or recruiters) that companies who sponsor the hackathon send on their behalf. With the Student Seed Fund grant, SWE-SJSU can finally begin planning the logistics of the event and brainstorming ideas on how to make the hackathon an even more amazing experience for all those who attend. Stay tuned for more information!
